During the COVID-19 pandemic, one of the most heartbreaking things was how people were left alone, even in death. Families stood helpless, unable to bury their loved ones. Fear kept everyone away.
That’s when Al Manahil Welfare Foundation stepped in. We couldn’t let people be abandoned. Our COVID-19 Rescue Team took on the responsibility of burying those who had no one else.
From March 2020 to January 2022, we buried 3,800 COVID-19 victims. It didn’t matter what religion they followed. Muslims, Hindus, Buddhists, Christians, and indigenous communities—all received the same care and dignity. 209 non-Muslim individuals were given proper funerals with respect.
It wasn’t easy. We saw families crying, unable to perform the last rites. We saw hospitals turning patients away because there were no beds. We even watched a man take his last breath in our ambulance after 14 hours of searching for help. Those moments were painful, but they made us more determined.
We didn’t just bury the dead—we also fought for the living. We built an isolation center where patients could get the care they needed. We wanted to make sure no one had to suffer alone.
Al Manahil stood by people when no one else did. Because in life or in death, no one deserves to be forgotten.
